While I was working on Evie Digigram for my Masters’ dissertation and posting regular tech adventures where Evie would appear in a different form of reality, or be animated with a new tool I’d quickly learned to use, I got to know a few other virtual influencers inhabiting the same space, and we would mutually support one another. One of those was Sylvia who was getting older…very rapidly. She was born in May 2020, was already in her forties in August and at the beginning of November she became 75.
Sylvia was created by artist and researcher Ziv Schneider as a social media experiment on themes such as ageism, mortality, and simulated authenticity. During IDFA, we looked back on Sylvia’s life, and also witnessed its end. As Evie’s creator, I was invited to join the celebration of Sylvia’s life, and witness the end through a live online ceremony broadcast via Zoom. (See the video below).
